Not producing enough breast milk. What should I do?

I have been using a breast pump to pump and store milk for my baby. However, I think I am not being able to produce enough milk. Does it mean that I have a limited amount of milk supply?

The amount of milk you are able to express greatly depends on the kind of breast pump you are using. Hospital grade breast pumps like Medela Symphony, Medela Lactina Select and Ameda Elite are able to extract more milk efficiently. Using the correct sized breast shield is the key here, so you have to make sure that you use one according to your breast and nipple size.

On the other hand, small battery operated pumps are not able to express a lot of milk. Instead, you can use a manual pump to express milk by hand. Most manually operated breast pumps can extract milk efficiently when compared to small electric or battery-operated breast pumps. However, this can be tiring for some women.

Therefore, choosing the right breast pump is important, as it will greatly affect the milk you are able to express. You should also make sure that you express milk frequently, so more milk is produced by your breasts.
