Can breast feeding and pumping affect my breast size?

I will be giving birth to my first baby soon, and would like to know if breast feeding and using a breast pump will affect the size of my breasts? I’ve heard that breast pumps can cause breasts to sag. I am worried if my breasts will return to their previous size once I stop nursing and breast pumping.

This is one of the most common questions asked by nursing mothers who are concerned about how their breasts will look once they stop feeding their baby. You should know that breasts have lactation tissue which enlarges during pregnancy and stays enlarged as long as you breast feed or use a breast pump. Enlargement of breasts starts during pregnancy and they can stay enlarged later on also whether you breastfeed or not. However, most women find that their breasts return to the pre-pregnancy size after weaning, so breast feeding your baby or using a manual or electric breast pump should not worry you.
