I gave birth to my daughter 4 days ago, but my milk has still not come in. I am worried about my milk supply as I really want to nurse her. I’ve been using a hospital grade breast pump, which I rented from the hospital, to help me increase my milk supply but I think I’m not getting enough milk. What should I do?
First of all, our team at Trusted Breast Pumps would like to congratulate you on your daughter’s birth. Breast milk can take 6 to 7 days to mature, so you should not worry about it yet. However, you have to make sure that you feed your baby every 2 – 3 hours. You can directly nurse from the breast, or use a breast pump to pump and store milk to feed later. Ideally, you should use a breast pump after every feed, as new born babies do not need a lot of milk in the first few days. After nursing, you can empty out the breasts using a hand or manual pump.
If you are having problems in getting the baby to latch-on properly, you should seek help from a lactation consultant. You and your baby should work with the lactation consultant to figure out the best positions for breast feeding. Your nursing consultant will also give you tips on how to hold your breast and stimulate it at the same time while feeding for easy let-down. Regular pumping and nursing will help increase your milk production to meet the increasing needs of your baby.
