All Our Breastpumps And Accessories Are BPA-Free!

As a new mom or mom-to-be, you have enough to worry about – you probably have a list of all the “what ifs” in your head. When you’re shopping online for anything that’s made of plastic, you worry – what if it contains BPA? If you’ve read or heard about the possible dangers to your infant’s health and development caused by exposure to BPA, you needn’t worry about any of our quality products, because they’re all BPA-free. All of our electric breast pumps, each manual breast pump, right down to all our accessories, are free of BPA.

BPA is the abbreviation for bisphenol A, which is used in the manufacture of plastics and polycarbonate. It is inherently toxic in that it acts as a hormone disruptor which can cause negative health effects. And, when exposed to hot liquids, these plastics leach BPA at fast levels. Research performed at the Yale School of Medicine determined that BPA interferes with brain cell connections that are essential for memory, learning and mood. Although newborns and infants are most at risk from BPA exposure, it also affects adults. Research presented this year at an annual gathering of the Endocrine Society reported it can also affect women’s hearts. This meeting stated that it appears to be streaming into our bodies from several unknown sources. The National Research Center for Women and Families has determined the chemical is likely harmful to humans and that pre-natal exposures are especially risky.

However, there is also good news to report. With all this dangerous evidence, Canada banned the substance in 2008. The US government formally declared it a hazardous substance in October 2008 and is now on the government’s list of toxic substances. In March 2009, Sunoco started refusing sales of BPA to manufacturers that produce food and beverage containers for youngsters under three years of age, because Sunoco is not certain of its safety. Lastly, as late as September 2008, the FDA had stated that the chemical was safe. But they were accused of using experimental data gathered using outdated methods, and only using two new industry-supported studies to make that assessment. So finally, in June 2009, they announced they would reconsider the safety levels of BPA.

When you’re shopping elsewhere online, look for a BPA-free label, symbol or product statement. There are seven types of plastics, and those marked 03 and 07 may leach BPA. Some products may be identified “PC,” meaning it contains a polycarbonate. But when you’re shopping at www.trusted-breast-pumps.com, you have no worries – everything’s BPA-free.
